Nothing surprises me anymore.
I am 100% completely serious when I state that it is a tiny world that we are living in. The more you travel and the more you socialize with different types of people the more you realize that this statement is in fact true.
I have to admit that the last couple of years have been some kind of spooky. I always seem to find some kind of connections/links to almost everyone that I meet.
Couple scenarios:
Ones I was laying on the beach on a small island in Thailand called Koh Chang when a random Belgian guy walks up to me and asks me if I am the Swedish- Belgo girl. We came to knowledge that we both had worked at the same place in Brussels. Lennert and I ended up celebrating Christmas in Koh Phangan and New Years Eve at a trans festival in the jungle in Krabi: Green Spirit!
Not even going to mention the backpacker trail encounters you had over and over again in Asia.
The girl in the picture above Shaw was one of the Aussie girls who filmed Peter Doherty when he was shooting up in Phuket a week later. She and her friend sold the pictures to THE SUN and traveled a year longer! ;)
When I was an intern at Buddha Bar in Paris I met the one and only lovely Tove aka Marie Lou! We realized after a couple of weeks (?) that I had gone to school with her long time childhood friend and that she had even been to my old school.
Happy Birthday!
Tove then introduced me to her friend James here in London who uses to work with my good friend Lee-Sophie back home in Stockholm.
The same week that I met James for the first time I was sitting in the court yard @ Astors Museum Inn drinking some beer chatting away with another Swedish guy Johan, that did the bartender course one month before me. We were talking about different cocktails and I mentioned something about Buddha Bar. Johan then tells me that he is working with a guy here in London @ The Dirty Martini that use to work at the Buddha Bar in Paris, here is where Mr.Inko got tangled into the conspiracy.
The same night we decide to go for a drink to the B@1 and Ooops who do we find there? Later on we find out that Inko’s Swedish room mate Hans is friends with a girl that I grew up with in Belgium, Louise.
I have so many weird scenarios that I have started to lose track, but this week actually tops the most!
Saturday I went out with some people from the hostel to a night club. I walk into the bar and I see my friend from school Gabby working behind the bar, then when I walk out from the club, I accidentally step on Ivan. Ivan is a Spanish guy that I use to live with when I was staying @ Piccadilly Backpackers Hostel who's number I lost.
Piccadilly Backpackers hostel... (not Ivan in the photo)
Sunday it was time to change room in the hostel. In the new room I met Alexandra (Swedish) and we immediately got to talking. I mentioned something about that I use to live in Belgium and we then realizes that her summer-family-neighbors in Sweden are friends of mine from Waterloo. AND that her other neighbors are my first boyfriend, Felix cousins.... ?????
Monday I had my second French lesson of the semester and there is this new girl that just got transferred into our group Katya . I ask her where she comes from and she answers me Belgium and Russia, lives in Waterloo and has gone to St Johns International School and we have at least ten friends in common. The same night when I walk in my room at the hostel I see this new girl that has just arrived, same story there, I gently ask her where she comes from and she tells me USA, Minnesota and that she is doing a an internship at St Johns International in Waterloo.....
Yesterday night. I went to a great cocktail bar in SOHO, I was going there to meet up some friends of mine from Belgium.. The first thing I see is that the bartender who is working behind the bar use to work at the Buddha Bar in Paris. I then go up a floor to look for my friends.. not there yet.. Starts talking to the other bartender who is apparently Swedish and has worked together with a my friend Anders that I did my Restaurant Business Management degree with in Stockholm.
After a while I got a bit bored of waiting and starts to talk with the gentleman who is sitting next to me at the bar. Shortly after he introduces me to his friend.. There is something familiar about this guy but I can not put my finger spot on it. After that we had talked English to each other for five minutes we then realizes that we are both Swedish from Stockholm. He tells me his name is Kalle and DIING I finally know where I have seen him before. He use to live in the castle as a boarding student at my old school in Belgium eight years ago....
The population of London on February 18th 2011 is approximately 7,752,630!
With today's facebook-spying I know that it is difficult to get surprised by the fact that everyone is actually connected in some sort of way to each other. Trust me, I should know, just did the stupid test on how may hours you have spent on Facebook in your whole life... not to recommend!
